‘Verses’ is a scripted comedic drama focused on four real singer/songwriters. It finds the sweet spot between ‘Girls’ and ‘Nashville,’ blending the power of scripted television with the allure of real touring musicians. From an episodic perspective it becomes a launch pad for new music and established cameos, uniquely combining two forms of media.
Verses follows the self-discovery journey of central character The Tin Man (stage moniker of attorney-by-day Marshall Richards) and a strong supporting cast of talented singer/songwriters (Noah Guthrie, Jean Kelley, Eliot Bronson, and Billy Hume) with varying levels of musical success. The show reveals their individual quests to pursue music in spite of overwhelming odds, discover who they are as people and artists, and share their voice with the world.
This journey takes place in Atlanta, Georgia, a city whose musical legacy is best known for rap and hip/hop. Despite this stigma, Verses highlights the side of Atlanta inhabited by burgeoning singer/songwriters. A world pioneered by artists like Shawn Mullins, the Indigo Girls, John Mayer, Sugarland, and many others.
At least one original song by a cast member or special guest star will be featured in each episode through story-driven music video vignettes. Each character is an actual singer/songwriter who will maintain an active music career under their character/real name and release new music in synch with the series.
